About
The community attended a kick-off event for Durham County Government's guaranteed income pilot program, DCo Thrives. Following a screening of It’s Basic, County Manager Dr. Kimberly J. Sowell moderated a roundtable discussion that featured program administrators, guaranteed income recipients, and Mayor Pro Temp Mark-Anthony Middleton. Chair Brenda Howerton and Commissioner Nida Allam, both instrumental to the national movement supporting Counties for a Guaranteed Income, also gave remarks.
Durham County is taking a bold step towards addressing economic disparities by implementing DCo Thrives, a guaranteed income pilot program that aims to help Durham families go from surviving to thriving. This program provides no-strings attached financial support to 125 low-income families and assess the potential positive impacts on the community.
