On Tuesday, October 24, 2023, Mayor Ras Baraka hosted a roundtable discussion about the promise and power of guaranteed income as a policy solution. Newark’s guaranteed income pilot program, the Newark Movement for Economic Equity, concluded in September 2023, and soon after the city released preliminary data from independent researchers showing its effectiveness. Recipients of the Newark Movement for Economic Equity participated in the discussion, along with filmmaker Marc Levin.
