About

Hosted by Saint Paul Mayor Melvin Carter, alongside MGI co-chair Michael Tubbs, Minnesota State Rep. Athena Hollins, film director Marc Levin, and Saint Paul's guaranteed income recipients, the event included a discussion that centered on the film's profiling of guaranteed income pilots across the country, including Saint Paul.

Since November 2020, the City of Saint Paul has launched four separate pilot programs to study what happens when the government sends money to very low-income residents with no strings attached.

"Saint Paul's guaranteed income pilot helped create financial opportunity for the families who participated,” said Mayor Melvin Carter, who also serves as an MGI national co-chair. “These dollars can unlock a world of potential by helping people pay for child care, car repairs, rent, groceries, and other necessities. We are the second city to launch a mayor-led guaranteed income pilot and the first to leverage public dollars. I am proud we are leading the way in this important work.”
